SQUINT EYES, WHICH ARE NOTHING BUT CROSSED EYES WHICH ARE NOT IN ALIGNMENT CAN BE CORRECTED BY THE FOLLOWING METHODS 1. Optical correction – in this method we give correcting spectacles to the affected eye. 2. Occlusion therapy – in this method we occlude the normal eye periodically to bring back the squinting eye to the straight line 3. Orthoptic exercises – In this case, a special instrument, Synaptophore by name helps in aligning the eyes 4. Operation – In this case squint correction operation can be done to align the eyes. Squint as some laymen presume, is not a sign of luck, but can lead to amblyopia (Partial blindness) if ignored
CAN CATARACT SURGERY BE DONE FOR VERY OLD AGE PATIENTS? There are certain patients who think that if they are extremely old like 85 or 90 years, then they will not be able to undergo cataract operation. They falsely presume that the surgery may not be successful. This concept is not true. In my 38 years of experience in ophthalmology, I have operated many patients of extreme ages (8 months babies to 105 year old) for cataract with good success. Before operation we do some tests to find out whether patient will get good vision after cataract surgery. If the tests indicate positive results, then invariably patient will have good vision after surgery.
