CAN CATARACT SURGERY BE DONE FOR VERY OLD AGE PATIENTS?

There are certain patients who think that if they are extremely old like 85 or 90 years,  then they will not be able to undergo cataract operation. They falsely presume that the surgery may not be successful. This concept is not true. In my 38 years of experience in ophthalmology, I have operated many patients of extreme ages (8 months babies to 105 year old) for cataract with good success. Before operation we do some tests to find out whether patient will get good vision after cataract surgery. If the tests indicate positive results, then invariably patient will have good vision after surgery.
